4-12-2026 - Pilgrim Update: Divine Mercy Sunday
Jesus Draws Close!
Blessed Divine Mercy Sunday and 8th day of Easter! We continue to celebrate that Jesus is alive. He offers mercy and love to all who will come to him and he will never leave us nor abandon us.
It's hard to believe that we've come to the end of this year's Emmaus 90 journey. It's been an honor and a joy to walk this journey with you. Know that we will continue to pray for you. Never forget, God is NOT done. He has more for you.
Please read on for some ideas about that "more."

Emmaus 90 Story
Each week, we share a story from one of our Emmaus 90 Pilgrims.
An anonymous pilgrim in shares (translated from Spanish): "Emaús 90 helped me become more consistent in prayer, especially during Eucharistic Adoration. I cherish every moment of the Mass and of the Word of God; but above all, I have learned to walk with Jesus. During this journey, I went through personal experiences that made me think I would not be able to go on. Yet Jesus is so merciful that He taught me to deepen my spirituality in such a way that I have learned to carry my cross with joy and with love. I found the love of Jesus, and I learned to see our Lord in every member of my family—both immediate and extended—as well as in my friends. Whenever I have the opportunity, I share my testimony so that others may be encouraged to draw closer to the Church and to recognize our High Priest—Jesus, our Savior."
We LOVE this! Thank you so much for sharing!
Please consider sharing a story about how God has blessed you or your Pilgrim Group through your Emmaus 90 journey.

See you in the Eucharist (and God-willing, someday at the East Gate in Heaven)!
Thank you and God bless you,

4-5-2026 - Pilgrim Update: Easter Sunday
He is Risen Indeed! Alleluia!
I have been waiting for this Easter Sunday morning to sing this song (also in ASL) (también en español).
I just wanted to share it in case it would bless you. It's ok if it's not your style--I encourage you to take some time today to find your way of praising and thanking God for all he has done for us.
He is alive! We sing alleluia!
God's not done! He has more for you in this Easter Season. Can't wait to be with you this Easter Thursday to celebrate together at our last live Formation Session of this year's Emmaus 90 journey!
Know that we're praying for you and everyone you invite to join you for your Easter Mass & celebration.
Margaret & the Emmaus 90 Team
Did You Know?
Today is the first day of Easter. We celebrate Easter as an Octave, or in other words: for 8 days. Today also begins the Easter Season which is 50 days until Pentecost. That's right, the season of Easter is actually longer than Lent. The Church gives us Lent as a season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, and Easter as a season of celebrating our Lord's resurrection from the dead. We are a resurrection people and Alleluia is our song!
At the Easter Vigil The Exsultet: The Proclamation of Easter is sung. If you've never prayed with the beautiful words of this ancient hymn, it's worth a read.
This Week in Emmaus 90

- What has it been like for you to walk with Jesus through this Holy Week and Easter?
- How will you continue growing as a disciple, living all the parts of the Anatomy of a Catholic Disciple after Easter?

Each week, we share a story from one of our Emmaus 90 Pilgrims.
An anonymous pilgrim shares: "During our Pilgrim Group meeting at a coffee shop, a woman stopped by our table to say 'hi'. We encouraged her to join us and shared our experiences with Emmaus 90. We gave her the Prayer Guide/Daily Examen card and invited her to join us next week. It was perfect practice of the message from Fr. John Burns! So cool to share the journey with others and invite them along."

4-2-2026 - Holy Thursday Message from Bishop Jeffrey Haines
Let the Triduum Begin!
NO LIVE FORMATION SESSION TONIGHT - SEE YOU LIVE NEXT THURSDAY, APRIL 9!
In his Emmaus 90 video message above, Bishop Haines invites you to participate in your parish's Triduum services (starting tonight!) and gives us these challenges:
- Invite someone to come with you to celebrate the Triduum at your parish.
- Participate in your parish's Triduum and pray for these special intentions:
- Holy Thursday: The Heart of Service.
- During the washing of the feet, pray for those in need of tender care.
- During the preparation of the gifts, pray for priests, maybe a priest who has had a significant impact on your life or one with declining health.
- Good Friday: Those Carrying Crosses.
- During the Prayers of the Faithful, pray for the 11 universal intentions, and pick one to carry in your heart and continue to pray for through the day.
- During the veneration of the cross, pray for each person as they come to the cross and for the crosses that they are carrying.
- Easter Vigil: Hope & New Beginnings.
- In the darkness before we light the Easter fire, pray for those in a dark place, struggling with their mental health.
- Pray for our OCIA candidates as they are welcomed into the Church.
Having walked with Jesus these last 90 days--getting to know him better and love him more--we walk with him through what must have been the hardest moments of his life, and also the battle of his greatest victory. Will you walk with him through these last hours of his earthly life, his passion and death?
Know that we're praying for you and everyone you invite to join you for Triduum and Easter.
What is the Triduum?
"The Paschal Triduum of the Passion and Resurrection of the Lord begins with the evening Mass of the Lord's Supper [Holy Thursday evening], and closes with Vespers [Evening Prayer] of the Sunday of the Resurrection [Easter Sunday evening]" (Universal Norms for the Liturgical Year and the General Roman Calendar, 19, brackets added). Sunday also begins the Easter season--which lasts 50 days until Pentecost. The Easter Season is actually longer than Lent!

3-29-2026 - Pilgrim Update: Palm Sunday
Palms to Passion: Enter Holy Week
In today's Palm Sunday Mass we walk with Jesus from his triumphant entry into Jerusalem through his betrayal, passion and death. We're praying for you, that you can stay close to him this week as we remember how he gives everything to save us.
This Thursday, April 2, is Holy Thursday, when we celebrate the Mass of the Lord's Supper. It's also the beginning of the Easter Triduum, the summit (or high point) of our Liturgical Year, which begins on Holy Thursday and continues through the Easter Vigil.
Instead of our usual Thursday night Formation Session, we encourage you and your Pilgrim Group to go to your parish's Holy Thursday Service. Consider inviting a friend or loved one to join you for this beautiful celebration!
Don't miss our last Livestream Emmaus 90 Formation Session next Thursday, April 9, where we'll put all the pieces together, like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, setting out on mission.
To receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation once more before Easter, you can Find a Confession Time Here.
Jesus, please give us courage and an open door to invite those we are walking with to join us in our celebration of Holy Week and Easter. Help us walk this Holy Week with you.

3-22-2026 - Pilgrim Update: Fifth Sunday of Lent
The Game is Won in the 4th Quarter
Prayer feel dry, your disciplines inconsistent, or your energy low? Take heart: this is exactly where the Lord loves to work. Don’t quit in the 4th quarter. Stay with him.
We hear Jesus call Lazarus out of the tomb—a reminder that he is always at work, even when we feel worn down or off track. This is the moment to help each other stay together, stay faithful, and not let up.
God is not done. He has more for you.
Jesus, help us finish strong.

3-15-2026 - Pilgrim Update: Fourth Sunday of Lent
Laetare Sunday & the Forth Week of Lent
Laetare Sunday (that's today) is the Sunday half-way through Lent, when we look forward in joyful hope to what the Lord accomplishes for us.
Half-way through Lent is a good time to pause and reflect on where we've been and where we want to be when we get to Easter:
-
How has your time in prayer helped you to grow in deeper relationship with God and awareness of the ways God speaks to you?
-
What are you noticing God revealing to you through the Scriptures and in prayer? Have there been any themes or patterns?
-
What do you need for this 2nd half of your journey? Ask God for the grace you need to persevere until Easter, or to begin again.

Jesus Meets Us Where We Are
Even if we've pulled away from God and the Christian community, Jesus draws close, inviting us to come home.
When shame tempts you, like the woman at the well, to stay away from others and from faith, know that Jesus sees you, he loves you, and walks with you.
We're here for you too. We're praying that you can get to know our Lord, his merciful love for you (no matter what you've done or failed to do), and his longing to bring you from the margins into the home of the Father.

Emmaus 90 Story
Each week, we share a story from one of our Emmaus 90 Pilgrims.
An anonymous pilgrim shares:
"Last year I registered for Emmaus 90 and was very excited to get started and try to find a small group. I watched the first few zoom sessions and was extremely inspired. Then life happened, I was no longer available on Thursday evenings, and I did not have a small group. I had many excuses as to why I did not have the time to finish. This year I am doing it all, daily prayer, small group and weekly formation sessions.
Every Thursday I feel like I am on fire wanting to share with the whole world what I learned that evening.
God is waiting for all of us to be present and spend time with Him, Emmaus 90 has helped me realize He is wonderful to spend time with. Don’t give up, it is so worth it, it is not to late."
We LOVE this! Thank you so much for sharing!

- THEME This week, we focus on Community, or the flesh/skin of the Anatomy of a Catholic Disciple. Have you ever considered that the skin protects the body, helps us stay warm, and helps us to sense and interact with the world around us? So too, Christian community protects us, provides warmth we need, and helps us to understand and interact with the world in healthy ways.

3-1-2026 - Pilgrim Update: Second Sunday of Lent
Jesus' Pilgrim Group
Peter, James, and John seem to have been Jesus' discipleship small group. In scripture, we see Jesus invite them to be with him:
-
calling them together (Luke 5:1-11),
-
bringing them with him to pray and to heal (Mark 5:37),
-
showing them who he is in the Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-9),
-
discussing their questions (Mark 13:3), and
-
praying with them in his agony in the garden (Mark 14:33).
As we grow as disciples who are striving to be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what Jesus does, who's with you?
Faith grows in relationship. In small group community like a pilgrim group of friends or family (James and John were brothers after all), we help each other experience God's love, learn from each other, and encourage each other through prayer and support.
It's not too late to ask someone to join you in your journey of discipleship.

Emmaus 90 Story
Each week, we share a story from one of our Emmaus 90 Pilgrims.
An anonymous pilgrim shares:
"During one pilgrim group session, I was feeling sad and anxious, and really struggling to understand how God could ever love me or desire a relationship with me. My friend looked at me and said simply, "Well, we all care about you, and want to be your friends, don't we?" Her honesty and friendship, as well as faith, in that moment helped me to deepen my relationship not only with my group, but with God as well.
As we work through Emmaus 90, I encourage other participants to embrace the joys of prayer as a community, because you never know what God can do with a few friends on a journey."

2-22-2026 - Pilgrim Update: First Sunday of Lent
You Are Not Alone
Have you ever noticed that when Jesus goes into the desert for 40 days to be tempted by the enemy, he was led by the Holy Spirit (Matthew 4:1).
Jesus was not alone in the desert. The Holy Spirit was with him. Like Jesus, you are not alone in these 40 days of Lent. He will never leave you nor abandon you. He fights for you.
When the temptations come and the lies from the enemy get to you, remember that Jesus is with you. Ask him for help.
We're here for you too. Know that we’re praying for you!

Emmaus 90 Story
Each week, we share a story from one of our Emmaus 90 Pilgrims.
Samantha from Our Lady of Divine Providence shares:
"The Emmaus 90 journey has been really impactful for my group. We're all at different stages of our spiritual journeys, but it's brought us closer together, reminding us that we're all on the same path with Christ. The prayer prompts have been especially transformative--one week they resonate with me, and the next, they impact someone else in a different way.
It's kept things deeply personal and helped us grow closer to both the Lord and each other. I highly recommend focusing on meditative prayer. The talks are encouraging, but daily personal prayer really shifts your whole day. You start noticing how Christ is present in everything, and it's beautiful to live and act with Him, and how much He wants to be involved personally in every detail."

T-Minus 3 Days to Ash Wednesday. Let's Begin Again.
This Wednesday, Ash Wednesday, is the halfway point on our Emmaus 90 journey. We pause today, 3 days before Lent, 48 Days before Easter, to take stock:
How has it been going?
What do you desire?
Ask Jesus for what you desire and to help you to start fresh this Lent.
See page 77 of your Emmaus 90 Guidebook for more reflection on your journey and your plan for Lent.
If it's been hard to keep showing up for your daily prayer with Scripture, or you've felt discouraged or tempted to give up, remember:
- In your Baptism, God speaks, "You are my beloved child, I delight in you."
- In the Eucharist Jesus is always here for you. You are not alone.
- In Reconciliation, our Lord is always offering you his great mercy, a loving hand to help you up when you fall, and grace to begin again.

Emmaus 90 Story
Each week, we share a story from one of our Emmaus 90 Pilgrims.
A pilgrim from Milwaukee shares:
"Committing to regular daily prayer, believing that I am a beloved child of God, feeling comfortable with conversational prayer, and knowing how to listen for God’s voice have all mostly eluded me. For most of my adult life I have frequently brought to confession neglecting prayer. I tended not to look forward to prayer. But this simple process you have made for us, with scripture selections and guidance for how to pray, what words to use, has made a deep change in my prayer and in my relationship with the Lord. I’m so grateful."

2-8-2026 Pilgrim Update: Lent Already?
Lent Already?!
Believe it or not, Lent starts in 10 days. How will you get ready?
Right before Jesus starts his 40 days in the desert, the Father blesses him in his baptism. As the Holy Spirit descends on Jesus, the Father speaks over him: "This is my beloved son, in whom I delight." (Matthew 3:13-4:2)
The Father's love in that moment strengthens him against the attacks of the enemy, who will question his identity through the temptations in the desert ("if you are the son of God...").
As you get ready to head into Lent, ask God to remind you who you are and help you to live the truth: In your baptism and ever since, God says to you, "You are my beloved child. I delight in you."
What you choose to "give up" and "take up" this Lent is not to earn God's love. It's to thank him for his love and to grow as his beloved child, becoming more like him.
Know that we’re praying for you!

Emmaus 90 Story
Each week, we share a story from one of our Emmaus 90 Pilgrims.
This week, Pam from Our Lady of the Lakes shares:
"I was recently waiting to catch a flight at Milwaukee airport. I had out my Bible and my Emmaus 90 journal. An employee came up to me and said she noticed me doing my Bible study. She said she also recently started doing a Bible study. She introduced herself and we had a nice connection/conversation. A few minutes later, another employee came up to me and brought me a little prayer card that said “God loves you,” and she said the two of them had been placing them around for others to find. I thanked her for the gift and asked how I can pray for her. She asked that I help her pray for more kindness—because we are all one family. It totally made my day to find some other “undercover” disciples working in the vineyard. "

2-1-26 - Pilgrim Update: The Messy Middle
The Middle Matters
We're one month into our Emmaus 90 Journey in the forth week of ordinary time. The excitement we had starting out may have faded and the finish line is not yet it in sight. But the messy middle is where the real growth happens. Our daily choice to seek the Lord and live our Emmaus 90 practices through the middle of the journey can strengthen and transform us.
One month in, there's also renewed strength to begin again through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. (One of our Emmaus 90 Practices is to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation at least once a month.) If it's been a while, or that feels scary, here's a little encouragement: What To Do with Guilt & Shame.
Know that we're praying for you in this middle season--the season of growth.

1-25-26 - Pilgrim Update: Blessed Sunday of the Word of God
Blessed Sunday of the Word of God!
The Third Sunday in Ordinary Time (that's today) is dedicated to celebrating, studying, and sharing the Word of God.
Fun Facts:
- Pope Francis established the Sunday of the Word of God in 2019 in his Apostolic Letter “Aperuit illis.” This Latin title (the first line of his letter) is Luke 24:45, "he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures." Recognize that? It comes from Jesus interpreting the Scriptures for the disciples on the road to Emmaus.
- Pope Leo's monthly prayer intention is "For prayer with the Word of God: Let us pray that praying with the Word of God be nourishment for our lives and a source of hope in our communities, helping us to build a more fraternal and missionary Church."
- This week's Formation Session will help us grow in love with Scripture. It comes from Scripture scholar Dr. Mary Healy, one of the first women to serve on the Pontifical Biblical Commission.
As an Emmaus 90 pilgrim, you're already praying, celebrating, studying, and sharing the Word of God. Your efforts have a greater impact than you know. It's an honor and a joy to get to take this journey with you!

Daily readings speak to me in a different way. When I am reading it, I can imagine the character’s tone of their voices. |
(Extra)Ordinary Time - Time to Begin Again
Entering into the liturgical season of Ordinary Time reminds us that growth in the Christian life is not only found in special seasons, but in everyday life. Every day offers the opportunity to live in friendship with God, learn to recognize Jesus drawing near, and grow as an intentional disciple seeking to live the mission--the adventure--to which he invites you.
Studies show that by now the majority of Americans have abandoned their 2026 New Year's Resolutions. That also makes this an excellent time to ask Jesus, who never tires of answering our prayers, to help us begin again. Feeling behind? Here's a couple encouragements:
- Ask Jesus to help you.
- Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
- Pray as you can (not as you can't).
- Let go of what you have missed and begin with today.
What a joy to be on this journey with you! Invite a friend to join us, and 'come further up and further in!'

Emmaus 90 Story
Each week, we share a story from one of our Emmaus 90 Pilgrims.
This week, Vicki from our Deaf Community shares:
"Emmaus 90 is helping me get back into faith after 30 years. It feels good to come back to Catholic faith. Also it's helping me find missing pieces of my life and faith."
We LOVE this! Thank you so much for sharing!
Please consider sharing a story about how God has blessed you or your Pilgrim Group through your Emmaus 90 journey.

Got a Pilgrim Group?
Growth in discipleship is not a solo sport. The encouragement and prayers of the broader Emmaus 90 community helps. Walking with a group of 2-3 others who are committed to each other's growth is a game-changer.
It's not too late to invite friends or family to join you (or form a Pilgrim Group)! Ask the Lord to help you to think of:
- Who would you like to be with you on this journey into deeper relationship with God?
- Who would you like to help you along the way?
- Who is someone who loves you and encourages you?
- Who is someone you'd like to "grow up to be like" spiritually?
- Who would you like to encourage to grow in their faith?
- Who do you wish knew that God loved them and is with them?
- Who do you know is hungry to grow?
- Who is searching for something more?
Invite them to join you on this Emmaus 90 journey. It's not too late to Register Here
We still have printed Guidebooks available and all materials are available electronically immediately upon registration.

1-11-2026 - Blessed Baptism of the Lord!
Blessed Baptism of the Lord!
As we celebrate the Baptism of Jesus, we remember with gratitude that Jesus opened the waters of baptism for us, so that, through our baptism we could become beloved sons and daughters of God.
One way to celebrate the Baptism of the Lord can be to pray through the promises you made (or that your parents made for you) at your Baptism. Here's a BONUS: 1% Prayer with the Baptism of the Lord
Pray with the whole reflection on Jesus' Baptism from the gospel of Matthew, or just skip ahead to minute 16:18 to hear Fr. Jordan Berghouse lead us through a renewal of our Baptismal Promises.
Today's feast brings the liturgical season of Christmas to a close, and tomorrow begins the first week of Ordinary Time. "Ordinary Time is a time for growth and maturation"*
What a joy to start this season with all of you as we strive to grow in deeper discipleship and invite others to do the same!
We're praying for you to be able to live our daily practices with extraordinary faith, hope, and love!

Emmaus 90 Story
Each week, we share a story from one of our Emmaus 90 Pilgrims.
This week, an anonymous pilgrim shared in the Pre-Emmaus 90 Survey:
"Earlier this year, I returned to the Catholic Church after a 20 year absence. It is good. But, I kept feeling something was missing; I needed something. By sheer "accident" I saw the notice regarding Emmaus 90. In that moment I knew that was what I wanted, needed -- direction and guidance as I revitalize and deepen my relationship with God."
We LOVE this! Thank you so much for sharing!

1-4-2026 Emmaus 90 Pilgrim Update: Blessed Epiphany of the Lord!
Blessed Epiphany of our Lord!
There's something about the magi that captures my imagination. They seemed to love stargazing as much as I do. They were watching for and noticed the sign. And when they saw it, they searched for the truth, travelling (who knows how far?) without knowing for sure what they would find, or if they would find anything at all. They even had the humility to stop and ask for directions.
God met their desire and seeking for truth with an encounter with the Child Jesus! The one who came to save the world and draw us all into God's love. And when they saw him, they fell on their faces in homage--an act of worship.
What models of faith and hope the magi are for us! And how strong their friendship must have become while encouraging each other along that epic road trip!
May Jesus help us all to seek him so whole-heartedly, accept the way he reveals himself to us, and journey together so well!
This Week in Emmaus 90
Like the magi, we search diligently for Jesus who is such good news for us, through daily prayer with Scripture and in community with our fellow pilgrims.

12-28-25 Pilgrim Update: Blessed Christmas & Feast of the Holy Family!
|
Blessed Christmas and Feast of the Holy Family!
During these days between Christmas and New Year many of us find ourselves reflecting on what really matters. It's a time of taking stock:
- What's most important in my life?
- What's been going well?
- What do I want to be different next year?
Maybe you (like many of us) have set new year's resolutions before, but haven't been able to stick to them. For some of us, the feeling that we failed in the past makes us hesitant to try again or afraid to hope that this year could be different.
Real change comes from more than just trying harder. Growth in the spiritual life takes God's grace and a community walking with you.
This is why we've created Emmaus 90.
Over the next 90+ days, thousands of us will begin the Emmaus 90 journey, praying for each other and encouraging each other, as we ask Jesus to give us the grace to grow in relationship with him through daily prayer, formation, and community.
We're proud of you for courageously taking your first steps and we're praying for you that God gives you the grace you need this year.
May God help us all to grow deeper in relationship with Jesus as his disciples this year!

This Week in Emmaus 90
We continue preparing for the New Year, asking Jesus to help us to know what we desire, to trust him enough to tell him about it, to let him meet us in that place, and to understand God's desires for us.

Christmas Message
You can still view a Christmas Emmaus 90 Message at the link here Or at the bottom of this email. Take some time to pray with p. 3 of your Emmaus 90 Guidebook and tell the Lord how you're doing and what you desire. Ask Jesus for the grace you need.
